Lesson 10: Dengue

Dengue (pronounced DEN-gay) fever is an infectious disease caused by the dengue virus. People get the dengue virus from female mosquitoes. Dengue fever is also called break-bone fever. Symptoms include high fever, headaches, vomiting, loss of appetite, nausea, a rash and pain in the muscles and joints. Even though there is no vaccine that can prevent people from getting dengue there is treatment for the distressing symptoms. Drinking fluids and rest brings back infected people to good health.

Prevention is always better than cure. Do not allow water to collect in buckets and containers because the mosquito lays eggs in clean water as well as dirty water. Always apply mosquito repellent creams to all exposed areas of the body.  Wear long clothes and socks. Use mosquito repelling sprays and patches. Grow tulsi in a pot as it is said to drive away mosquitoes.

A) Please make questions and answers using the following:

dog bite
tooth ache,
sprain in the ankle.

Example: Question: My friend has a cold. What is the treatment? What should be avoided? How could it have been prevented?
Answer: Your friend should drink lots of warm water and gargle with salt water. Fried and spicy foods should be avoided. Washing hands frequently and not touching the face often could prevent falling ill to a cold.

B) Please Note:

Nouns ending in ‘o’ take an ‘s’ or an ‘es’ in the plural form.

Example:
One mosquito— many mosquitoes
One potato—- many potatoes
One tomato—- a dozen tomatoes

Some nouns ending in ‘o’ simply take an ‘s’

Example:
One radio—–two radios
One studio—two studios
