Conversation Class for Beginners

1.           10-Minute One-on-One English Conversation Class for a Level 1 Beginner

Lesson Topic: Introducing Yourself and Talking About Hobbies

 Objective:

  • By the end of this lesson, the Mentee will be able to introduce themselves and talk about their hobbies in simple English.
  • Grammar Focus: Personal Pronouns – I, you, we, me. These can be indicated during the conversation practice. They are marked out in bold letters below for easier identification.

 1.              Warm-up (2 minutes)

Mentor: “Hello! How are you today?” (Encourage the Mentee to respond with ‘I’m good’, ‘I’m fine’, or ‘I’m okay’.)

Mentor: “Today, we will practice introducing ourselves and talking about our hobbies. Let’s start!”

2.             Model Conversation (3 minutes)

Mentor: “When two or more people talk to each other it is known as a conversation. Listen to this short conversation. I will read both parts first, then we will practice together.”

This is a simulated model conversation and the answers may not reflect reality. The mentor and mentee can alter the questions and answers to reflect reality.

  • Mentor Reads:

Mentor reads both parts of the conversation below.

Mentor: Hi! What’s your name?

Mentee: My name is Rahul. What’s your name?

  • Practice Round:

The Mentor takes one role, and the Mentee takes the other.

Swap roles and repeat the conversation.

  • Mentor Reads
