Mentor Note: Please send your mentee the paragraph on transport and safety. The questions that follow can be answered orally and/ or in writing. Please discuss the words for the sentences. Please draw their attention to the difference between “riding” and “driving,” made clear in the “Fill in the Blanks” exercise. If you feel that your mentee can rise to the challenge, please have him /her fill in the form of the verb in the past tense (he walked) as well as in the present tense (he walks.) The little poem is for your mentee’s enjoyment. Memorization is optional.

People have been using wheels for thousands of years.
What makes a wheel a wheel?
A wheel is shaped like a circle.
A wheel moves round and round.
A wheel is used for moving things.
We have to push the pedals to get the wheels of a bicycle to move.
Wheels can be pulled by horses or bullocks.
Some wheels are powered by engines as in cars or buses.
Fire engines and ambulances must always be ready to go. The flashing lights and wailing siren warn vehicles to get out of the way. There is a fire or someone needs help, and they need to hurry.
